Lancer Turned Archer

So I've been playing FFXIV now for just under a year for the full game. I also played the Beta for a very short time. See posts here and here (there maybe some more posts but you look under games topic). My computer at the time could not run the beta very well so I just stopped. I didn't lose interest tho. My hubby rekindled it and suggested we play the full game when it came out. We did get some benefits in full game for playing the beta.

So in FFXI I played a red mage (RDM). I love kicking ass and nuking at same time. It was my favorite job. I half way expected the same job in FFXIV. Nope. So what did I choose? I didn't want to be a healer, solely. I also didn't want to nuke, soley. Nuke: blasting enemies (mob) with elemental and damaging spells. I am so not a tank. I don't like to keep hate on any mob. I rather hit it. So I chose a damage dealer job. I chose "Lancer", which turns into Dragoon. In FFXIV, dragoon you don't get a cute wyvern to play with like in FFXI. It would suit me okay since I did play the job in FFXI.

Lancer is interesting. But I noticed that not a lot of people played the job. I didn't know the reason at first. I played the role fine, not excellent. I was having difficulty in dungeons but was awesome solo. Some of my missions were easy and some were a little complicated. Then came the defining mission. My level 30 mission. This mission is the precurser to turning to a full fledged Dragoon. The mission actually has 2 parts. I blazed past the first part. It was a piece of cake. Then came the last part. I had to fight thus character that has been a thorn in the side of the lancer guild. This fight right here!! I have tried it 10 times and I can't pass it. This is my Maat fight for real!!! I always get him down to what looks like 1/4 if his HP, but the adds kill me in seconds once they appear. Lancers can't kite and boy have I tried. I started to get disconcerted for a while. My hubby looked up videos and strategies for me. He also came up with the fact this fight is a real bitch to do. People end up attempting the fight at level 34. It is also widely known that Lancer/Dragoon is the hardest job. There are tons of videos poking fun at how often LCR/DRG are always down. I always choose the hardest jobs. It always has to be the ones I like. It never fails.

My brother (Kirin Kaosu, in game) loves being a tank. He started the game as a tank and dies very well. My hubby (Magus Kaosu, in game) chose to be a healer. He rocks the job. Me, sometimes feel like incompetent since I can't clear this damn mission. I started barely getting on the game. Then I thought maybe I should try a new job. I didn't know what would be interesting. My hubby keep mentioning hiw Bard (brd) is the easiest job so far. So, eh, what the hell, I'll level Archer to get brd. Only thing is I have to level Puglist. I don't like hand to hand combat lol. Good thing I only have to take it to 15.

So now I'm level 18 or 20 on archer. I really enjoy thus job better than lancer. I don't have to be up and personal with the mob. Dungeons have been going smoother for me. My targeting is so much better. Up close to mob, so many lights are flashing that I couldn't see to target. Hubby created a macro for me for that reason. I haven't needed to use it with archer. Since I stay back, all the lights are not in my eyes and targeting is much easier. Archer/bard for the win. However, I'm a bit stuck on my level 15 quest. I know what to do but my coordination while kiting is not working out well so far. Need practice. I wish I could do the fight with my chocobo. I will get this fight done. I'm not a disconcerted as I was with my level 30 lancer quest.

I'm retiring my lancer for now. May pick it back up later just to get the quest log off of my screen. We'll see.

More to come.
